WA: Man charged with attempted murder over ramming of bike cop
PERTH, April 23 AAP - Detectives have charged a man with attempted murder, alleging
a police motorcyclist was deliberately rammed by a driver caught going the wrong way through
a roundabout.
Police yesterday released the name and photograph of a 31-year-old Perth man they wanted
to question after motorcycle officer Matt Adams escaped with minor injuries in the incident
last Saturday.
After arresting the man this morning, WA police charged him with a string of offences,
including attempted murder, stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly, failing to
stop when called upon and driving without a licence.
Three other people, a man and two women, were also arrested in connection with the incident.
A 55 year-old Hope Valley man and a 33 year-old Orelia woman have been charged with
attempting to pervert the course of justice. A 24-year-old Hope Valley woman was charged
with possessing amphetamine with intent to supply.
Police will allege Snr Const Adams chased the vehicle and signalled its driver to pull
over but the motorist refused to stop and, after reaching a dead-end, made a U-turn and
drove towards the policeman at high speed.
The 31-year-old man will appear in Perth magistrates court tomorrow. A police spokesman
said investigations were continuing and further arrests and charges could result.
