QLD: State s fire death toll drops to four for the year
BRISBANE, Jan 1 AAP - Queensland recorded four deaths in domestic fires last year, the
lowest figure in the 1990s, the state's Fire and Rescue Authority (QFRA) said today.
Last year's death toll was the lowest since the authority began officially tallying home
fatalities on a statewide basis in 1991.
Sixteen deaths were recorded that year, rising to 27 in 1995 before dropping to 11 in 1996
and five in 1997.
QFRA acting chief commissioner Peter George said an increase in the use of smoke alarms had
