Eugene E. Byrne, 68, co-owner of a North Side firm that makesheavy custom forgings, died Monday in Savannah, Ga., after becomingill while vacationing at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Mr. Byrne, of Northfield, had been associated with A. Finkl &Sons, 2011 N. Southport, for 23 years.
He joined the company in 1968 as vice president for finance. Hebecame part owner in the early 1970s, and held the positions of vicepresident for finance, secretary and board member.
He had been vice president of Eastern Stainless Steel inBaltimore for 12 years before coming to the Chicago area.
