Qld: No result on Abbott trial

BRISBANE, April 16 AAP - A Brisbane District Court jury has been locked up for the night
after deliberating for more than eight hours in the trial of escapee and armed robber Brendan
Abbott.

With no verdict returned this evening, a court spokesman said Abbott would return to court
tomorrow morning.

Abbott, 36, pleaded not guilty to the armed robbery of the Palm Beach Commonwealth Bank,
and stealing a car to commit the crime on November 13, 1997.

The prosecution said Abbott's fingerprints were in the stolen car and on a perspex screen
he jumped to menace bank tellers.

But Abbott's defence has argued he was framed by police who wanted him at any cost because
he was Australia's most wanted man at the time.
